38TH BULL SALE

Thursday September 3rd 2026 - 1pm

STOCKLIVE

Registered Angus since 1969

WELCOME TO THE 38th ANNUAL MILLAH MURRAH ANGUS BULL SALE

On page 10 there is a brief insight into the history of Millah Murrah Angus, and the breeding principles we have

employed for almost 60 years.

Experience has taught that the key to phenotype consistency is conservative sire selection. Experiment by all

means – as stud breeders that is a responsibility to industry. But do it in small measures. Be sure of what you are

doing before going “all in” on a bull.

Backed by this approach, it seems each new sire line we fold in of late, lifts the herd to ever higher levels. From the

likes of Kingdom and Klooney, through Loch Up, Nugget and Paratrooper, down to Quartz, Rocketman, Rembrandt

and Rector, the herd has evolved beautifully in recent years.

Now we are seeing the incredible influence on structure and phenotype coming through with Trigger. He has 30

sons in the sale. Just as exciting is that Santiago looks to be breeding so wonderfully well. We did not go in heavily

with him initially, preferring to test the waters first. The structure and type he transmits is right up there with his

more famous mate.

In the yearlings, two new sires make their debut with a superb selection from the 2024 sale topper Ultrajet and the

Genetics Australia pin up, Tiny Dancer. We also present the first Ulsterman sons with a good deal of anticipation.

It is a magnificent draft of bulls, so deep in quality to the last Lot. At the top end, there is more choice than ever

before.

We hope you enjoy reading through this catalogue, and if you attend the sale, please stay on afterwards for a drink

and something to eat.

PHYSICAL EXAMINATION & SEMEN

TESTING OF BULLS + JOINING SEASON

MANAGEMENT

Bulls are vet checked each year by John Bowman or Chris

Hallett of Coolah Vet Clinic including penis examination,

palpation of reproductive organs and visual inspection of

structure and locomotion.

At the same time, a crush side test for semen motility is

conducted.

A semen sample is then sent to the Queensland Sperm

Morphology Laboratory for analysis.

All bulls in the 18 month and two-year categories have

presented greater than 70% normal sperm, except when noted

on the supplementary information sheet, provided on sale day.

For the yearlings, the satisfactory morphology threshold

is lowered, simply due to maturity. Yearling bulls presenting

50-70% normal sperm, and showing adequate rates of

improvement from multiple tests, will be included in the sale

2 Millah Murrah Angus Bull Sale Catalogue 2026

with their % normal sperm indicated on the supplementary

sheet. It is important to note that they are considered ready for

work at point of sale.

As in previous years, there will be some yearlings for whom it

is not possible to obtain a satisfactory semen sample ahead of

the sale. While it is unlikely that they are infertile, we prefer to

be sure, before delivering them to their new home. And rather

than withdraw them from sale, we sell them with the following

options available to the purchaser:

1. Free delivery guaranteed by October 20th, pending a

satisfactory semen test result, with no payment due until

this time or,

2. In the event the bull fails the retest, the buyer may,

(a) withdraw from the sale altogether,

(b) retain the option to purchase the bull pending a

satisfactory result at an agreed future date, or

(c) elect to take a satisfactory replacement, delivered

free of charge by October 20th, with price negotiated

privately, no higher than the auction price of the original

bull.

The sale supplementary sheet will clearly identify any bulls

presented for sale under these delayed terms.

COMMENT: Some studs do not conduct any form of semen

testing, and many do not carry out morphology analyses,

even for two-year-old sale bulls. Morphology analysis of

genuine yearling bulls is rare. Semen testing is a vexed area,

and we make no judgement on what another stud does in

that regard. The reason some studs, including Millah Murrah,

choose to undertake semen morphology testing is that, very

occasionally, it will identify a permanent issue that cannot be

found by a thorough vet examination or crush side testing.

It is important to understand that semen testing is not a “silver

bullet” guarantee of the long-term fertility or infertility of a

bull. It is no more than a “point in time” examination. Testing

six weeks apart, invariably reveals failed bulls that pass and

passed bulls that fail.

Above all, during mating season, be sure to check the

bulls properly each week at least. And in single sire

situations, always endeavor to rotate the bulls between

mobs midway through the season.

BE SURE OF WHAT YOU ARE BUYING

All animals have been DNA

verified to the sire at least and in

most cases to the dam as well.

We have been sire or parent

verifying every animal in the

Millah Murrah female herd since

2003. No one has disputed our claim that Millah Murrah is the

longest parent verified herd in the world.

The suffix displayed at the end of each animal’s name

indicates the DNA parentage verification that has been

conducted by Angus Australia.

PV : both parents have been verified by DNA

SV : the sire has been verified by DNA

DV : the dam has been verified by DNA

# : DNA verification has not been conducted

E : DNA verification has identified that the sire and/

or dam may possibly be incorrect, but this cannot be

confirmed conclusively.

YEARLING BULL SELECTION

The yearling bulls must be born early enough in the spring

calving season to be 12 months of age by sale time.

At point of sale, we require them to be well over 500kg with

minimum teste size of 33cm, more than the industry standard

required for bulls of this age. This year’s yearling draft is on

track to average close to 600kg at sale time.

During the selection process we place a weighting towards

bulls with strong calving ease credentials. Being the same

age and not overly heavy, they are a logical match for joining

heifers. However, with sound management, the yearling bulls

do not need to be pigeon-holed as heifer bulls only. Many are

sufficiently well grown to work over cows in their first season,

especially 1st and 2nd calvers.

The yearlings continue to grow in popularity as breeders

come to appreciate that, for a tiny bit of extra management,

they deliver tremendous rewards in terms of more calves per

lifetime and rapid genetic gain.

HEALTH TREATMENTS

The bulls are ready for immediate use. They have been treated

as follows:

• DNA tested to prove they are not PI (Persistently Infected) with

Pestivirus

• Double vaccinated with Pestigard (last treated May 20th 2026)

• Double vaccinated with Vibrovax (last treated May 20th 2026)

• Double vaccinated with Ultravac 7 in 1 (last treated May 20th

2026)

• Double vaccinated with Ultravac BEF for 3 day sickness (last

treated May 20th 2026)

• Drenched with Eprinex in August

Please note that we will have Tick Fever vaccine delivered the

day following the sale. Any animals requiring treatment for tick

fever will be needled, upon request to Ross Thompson only, on

Saturday 5th September. Providing full insurance is taken out,

bulls can remain at Goonamurrah for up to two months at no

additional charge and without voiding the free freight service.

EBV NOTES

Readers may note some holes in the “Traits Observed” row for

some bulls, caused by an omission by Breedplan. Because

genomix has such a heavy influence on the missing traits, we

do not expect any significant changes to the EBV’s, when this

information is included in the September TACE run.

Millah Murrah Angus Bull Sale Catalogue 2026 3

TEMPERAMENT

Ben Simpson offered the following observation:

“As a professional animal photographer, I place cattle under

extraordinary temperament pressure. I have worked at close

quarters with the Millah Murrah cattle for many years and rate it

as one of the quietest, most even tempered herds of cattle I have

dealt with in my career. They are a pleasure to work with. ”

We have screened the cattle rigorously for temperament since

the Stud’s inception in 1969. We know the temperament of

the bulls in this sale individually and are confident that under

normal circumstances each of them is of sound disposition.

Understandably each year on sale day an occasional animal

misbehaves due to the big change to the yard area and the

pressure of strange people invading their space.

RECESSIVE GENETIC CONDITIONS

All bulls catalogued are free by pedigree or test of the four main

identifiable genetic conditions. Their status is shown on the 2nd

row of the Lot information. We believe our herd is free of the

red gene however make no guarantee on this. No claim may

be made against the vendor for any unknown or untestable

conditions that may arise in future.

SEMEN RIGHTS

All bulls sell with 80% semen marketing rights attached. In

doing this we leave the great majority of any potential semen

revenue in the buyer’s hands. However, by keeping a 20%

share, it gives us, as the breeder and party with the greatest

knowledge of the bull’s background, a seat at the table, in any

possible negotiations with semen companies and other parties.

By keeping the vendor involved, the 80/20 semen ownership

split is designed to give the purchaser the greatest opportunity

for semen sales on the top sires in the sale.

Should a bull be sold onwards, vendor’s semen rights must be

notified to the buyer and transfer with the sale of the bull. Under

all circumstances, the vendors retain the right to collect 1000

straws from any bull in the sale for use in the Millah Murrah and

Keringa MM herds only.

BULL HANDLING

On arrival at their new home it is important a suitable mob of

animals is yarded to greet the bull and minimize the stress on

the bull. Suitable animals include pregnant cows, steers, but

certainly not other bulls.

We strongly urge breeders to rotate their bulls mid-

season. No amount of vet checking, semen examination or

paddock observation, will detect all cases of transient issues

with bull semen. While it is rare, sometimes a bull looks to be

doing everything right, but due to unknown stresses, as much

as three months prior to the date of service, conception is not

achieved. The greatest insurance against low conception is to

replace, or swap bulls around, at least three weeks before the

end of the joining period.

The bulls are in good joining condition at point of sale, but it

is imperative to ensure good nutrition for the bulls during the

joining period. You should check the bulls regularly to see they

are working, especially in the early stages of joining when the

majority of problems occur and early intervention can minimize

the damage to the bull and to conception rates.

When joining is complete, bulls should be drenched and placed

on good pasture to get back into first grade health without being

allowed to get over fat.

GUARANTEE

1. Every bull is guaranteed to be a breeder at the time of sale

and is guaranteed fertile for 12 months from sale day. If a

bull should prove infertile or unable to serve cows naturally

(provided it is not caused by injury or disease contracted

post sale), the purchase price of the bull, less salvage value,

will be refunded. If a suitable replacement is available at the

time, compensation can be arranged in this manner. Please

note, to ensure a level playing field for all bidders, we do not

issue credits for use at future sales.

2. The bulls are guaranteed to be of the parentage catalogued.

Any claim to the contrary must be lodged within six months

of sale date, after which time the vendor’s liability is

absolved. Similar compensation is offered as in point 1.

HEALTH & SAFETY OF VISITORS TO OUR

SALE (RULES & ADVICE)

All the sale bulls have been screened for temperament and are

quiet to handle under normal circumstances. However there are

inherent risks associated with cattle handling.

VISITORS ENTER THE CATTLE PENS

AT THEIR OWN RISK

CHILDREN MUST NOT ENTER THE YARDS

People entering the yards are at risk of injury. Be especially alert

for bulls fighting and if one is playful with you, do not respond

by patting his head. What a bull considers a playful nudge can

break human legs! We do not expect the bulls to be aggressive

with humans, but sale day places extraordinary pressure on

them as they experience an entirely foreign environment.

Remember the quietest bull is in fact an unpredictable animal.

Do not crowd the bulls or loiter inside the pens. We cannot cover

every example of the dangers of cattle handling, so please use

common sense and be alert at all times. Don’t enter the pens

unnecessarily.

Please call upon any of the Elders agents for an escort through

the bulls if required. Please vacate each bull yard as swiftly as

possible to reduce social contact in the pens.

KEY REFERENCE SIRES

TRIGGER T308

Even at this early stage, it is safe to say Trigger is one of the three best

breeding bulls we have ever used at Millah Murrah. The phenotype

and structural excellence that he transmits is of the highest standard

seen.

Trigger sold for $180,000 as a yearling in our 2023 sale, to a consortium

headed by ABS Global. His first nine sons shattered all previous sires’

progeny records at the sale last year Semen demand has outstripped

inventory and supplies are unavailable at time of writing.

Trigger is a son of Quartz Q29, with Kruse Time K400 and Flower

N30 as paternal grandparents. On the maternal side, his dam is

by acclaimed female producer, Coonamble Hector, with Doc F159,

Crusader of Stern and Hingaia 469 all in the mix. It is a pedigree

brimful with proven maternal lines.

The final proving ground for any sire is to see their daughters in

production. Happily, we calved the first 20 two-year-old Trigger

heifers in July, all unassisted, all very motherly and all with lovely

udder attachment and teat placement.

Trigger will go down as one of the all-time greats to come out of the

Millah Murrah programme. 30 sons sell.

Trigger T308

SANTIAGO S304

Santiago was the $200,000 high seller at our 2023 sale to Will

Couch and ABS. With NZ sire Matauri Reality, and Klooney K42

as paternal and maternal grandsire respectively, Santiago draws

together two of the Angus breed’s great female lines of the past

decade. Santiago progeny exhibit lovely temperament and strong

structural integrity, with extraordinary doing ability and softness.

We will continue incorporating his direct influence for several

years to come. 12 sons sell.

Santiago S304

ULTRAJET U356

By Milwillah Ramjet, Ultrajet’s dam is a daughter of Nugget N266

(2018 sale topper). The former record priced cow of the breed, Prue

H112 is her grand dam, bringing Ythanbrae Henry VIII, Crusader of

Stern and Hingaia 469 into the mix. There is a fair bit of flair about the

young Ultrajet yearling bulls. They are long and deep flanked, with

superb skin and muscle pattern. Quiet to a fault, it will not surprise

to see one or two go into studs. They are exceptional. 8 sons sell.

Ultrajet U356

REMBRANDT R48

We continue to tap the remarkable Rembrandt influence directly and

through his son Thor T245. Thor descends from the Witherswood

Kerry D8 line, with the fabulous cow maker Nectar N334 as his

maternal grand sire. A combined 15 sons sell.

Rembrandt R48

8 Millah Murrah Angus Bull Sale Catalogue 2026

RICKY R45

Ricky has been smoldering away with occasional use in the herd,

since his sale to Arkle Angus at our 2021 bull sale. He is a son of

Spickler Powerpoint with Ascot Hallmark as maternal grand sire.

From a small sample, Ricky’s elite influence is apparent. Among this

sale group, Ricky is the maternal grand sire of Lots 4 & 5, and sire

of Lot 14, all of whom we have collected, with progeny due next

Autumn. 6 sons sell.

Lot 14, Ricky R45 son

ULSTERMAN U145

Ulsterman was the calf at foot when ½ share of embryo production in

his dam, Millah Murrah Flower N30, sold for $140,000 to Edengate

Angus, WA, in 2023. We retained him as a walking sire, before semen

interest from around the globe saw him contracted to Hallmark

Genetics with Agri-Gene as a key distributing Agent. A Rector son,

Ulsterman passes on the same flawless foot and skeletal structure

displayed in his own physique. Progeny exhibit extreme docility, fluid

locomotion, beautiful strong Angus heads, added length of body,

expressive top lines and more flank depth than may be expected

from inspection of the sire. 6 sons sell.

Ulsterman U145

TINY DANCER T438

At $70,000, Tiny Dancer was the high selling two-year-old of our

2024 sale to Gundungurra Angus. Contracted through Genetics

Australia for semen sales, several high profile studs across Australia

have progeny on the ground. All report similar traits of ultra docile

temperament and tremendous eye appeal. Repeat semen sales are

racking up. These are the first calves to sell anywhere. 7 sons sell.

57 YEARS IN THE MAKING

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE BULLS (AND A GLIMPSE OF THE FUTURE)

THE BEDROCK OF THE HERD

A recent article in The Land made a shallow exploration of

the maternal background of several Australian Angus studs. It

prompted some deeper reflection on Millah Murrah’s history.

Since inception in 1969, 17 cows have been introduced to

the herd.

Of those 17, only six have sustained a meaningful presence

through their descendants.

Incredibly the six families that have bred on, are from the

same six cows my parents selected as the foundation

females in 1969.

Listed by volume of bull descendants in this sale, those

families stem from:

• Wallah Flower 33rd

• Wallah Abigail 43rd

• Glengowan Brenda 8th

• Wallah Prue 23rd

• Glengowan Rado 11th and

• Muskerry Ela 25th.

The Sanderson family’s Wallah herd at Narrabri was widely

regarded among the pre-eminent Angus Studs of its era.

The enduring influence of those three cows at Millah

Murrah has been immense. It is testament to the capacity of

high-quality brood females to shape a breeding program

for countless descendant generations.

Oberon Show 1973

It is exciting for us that finally it appears a 7th family

is establishing firm roots at Millah Murrah, through

the wonderful Kerry D8. She was purchased at the

Witherswood dispersal sale in 2018.

John Woodruff - Witherswood Angus - after buying Kingdom

A study of the herd book shows that Kerry aside, all but

seven of the bulls in this sale are now 10 to 15 generations

maternally descended from those original six cows. By

“maternally” here, I mean on the very bottom line of each

pedigree generation, the dam has descended directly from

the purchased foundation cow.

Consider this: At 10 generations a family tree runs to 1024

names. At 15 that number blows out to more than 32,000!

In human terms, it is mind boggling to consider that at just 40

generations - well this side of Jesus’ time on earth - there are

more than two trillion lines in your family tree. Obviously, the

actual number of unique individuals is vastly smaller.

Those last two lines give pause for thought. They intimate

why an appreciation of line breeding is so vital, if your

ambition is to breed large lines of beautiful livestock.

THE PATERNAL INFLUENCERS

While there is a need at seedstock level to trial relatively

unrelated sires from time to time, the art of pure breeding

is to identify the best genetics and multiply them rapidly.

Equally, that art is about recognizing the failure of any new

bloodline to measure up and the discipline to eradicate - or

at least greatly dilute - its influence just as fast.

Parallel to the maternal side of the Millah Murrah ledger, it

is instructive to whittle down the sire-lines that have made

the biggest sustained herd improvement over the past 15-

20 years.

Hingaia 469 and his son Kingdom appear in vast numbers

of the extended pedigrees of the great animals in our herd.

Hingaia 469

The story is similar for the Booroomooka Theo sired

Klooney.

A less heralded sire with increasing influence is Loch Up. A

son of US bull Thomas Up River, the Loch Up mature cows

are superbly constructed brood females. They appear

behind some of the very best calves each year in numbers

disproportionate to their presence in the herd.

Then comes the famous EF Commando son, Paratrooper.

His line now extends through Rocketman and Rembrandt,

down a generation to Tommy Turbo, Tiny Dancer and Thor.

Potentially the next successional step could be the Tommy

Turbo x Kingdom calf at Lot 78. That would be a double

10 Millah Murrah Angus Bull Sale Catalogue 2026

whammy - also folding Kingdom back into play. And

Paratrooper is shining through on the dam side - the Ricky

R45 son at Lot 14 is a prime example.

The Coonamble Hector lineage runs through Nectar

to Rector and now down to Ulsterman. It has further

propelled the standard of structure and type consistency.

Lots 4 and 5 by Ulsterman are superb products of this line.

Kruse Time K400 was by the famous US sire BT Right Time,

and out of a Crusader of Stern (Hingaia 469 son) cow.

Through Quartz and boom sire Trigger, this line will extend

its reach through Valentino, and I suspect several more

sons in the years ahead. Over 30 bulls in the sale carry this

heritage. They are an incredible group of bulls, stars too

numerous to single out.

Prospects look bright that a couple of strong new lines are

developing.

The Matauri Reality descended Santiago oozes “maternal

quality”. His first few daughters have just hit production

with the sweetest of udders. The Santiago son at Lot 63 is a

brilliant example of the style he transmits.

And now we have a bead on the Milwillah Ramjet son,

Ultrajet U356. His early progeny is just so impressive, with

some stunning calves in this sale. The flush brothers at Lots

82, 83, 84 & 99 are among the features.

While we have used several other outside sires over the

years with good success - and many more whose genes

have disappeared quickly - it is a wonderful luxury to have

half a dozen or more superb main sire lines, constantly

multiplying and blending through the herd. They make the

job so much simpler than it once was.

LOOKING AHEAD - OUR INDUSTRY ROLE

It is important to experiment from time to time, and we

have a couple of well researched (eye balled) imports in

the pipeline at present. Only time will tell if a legendary

new sire evolves. The odds are probably against it. The

great ones are so rare.

From a commercial breeder’s perspective, I believe

genetic experimentation is best left to the studs. When it is

all about consistency of type and quality, it is folly to take

genetic risks in a commercial setting. It is for the studs to

experiment, make mistakes and provide the testing ground

for unproven sires, especially from foreign shores. Once we

uncover a good one, you can be sure we’ll let you know!

Founders of Millah Murrah Angus, Winsome &

Wyatt (Bunty) Thompson

AND SO, TO THE BULLS…

We are always very proud of the bull draft we present.

On face value, the culmination of just three years’ work,

deeper contemplation points to my parents’ extraordinary

livestock judging skill all those years ago. It also points

to the almost 60 years - and two human careers - of utter

dedication to the seedstock craft.

While there are always some headline bulls, the source of

our greatest satisfaction is the extraordinary consistency

of type and quality as we progress through the catalogue

each sale. So little separates the bulls in the last pen from

those in the first.

I hope this short history helps explain why.

Enormous power & growth in the opening pen of bulls.

W80 descends from one of the best cows to walk at

Goonamurrah, Klooney’s dam, Prue H4. He is sired by a

bull doing a superb job for us. Owner Siobhan Cowan of

Arkle Angus in WA reports that Ricky R45 has developed

into a beautiful mature sire that they’ll collect this season

for AI. Wilbur is a serious beef bull with 850kg in his

sights by sale day. His Dam’s first calf made the top pen,

The first Ulsterman son to sell. Ulsterman was the calf at

side when Flower N30 sold for a breed record valuation

- $140,000 half share to Edengate Angus WA, at our

2023 cow sale. Global demand for Ulsterman semen is

rampant. A delegation from NZ inspected him in March,

ordering 1000 units right away. 2000 units was recently

shipped to the EU, with further European orders received

as I write. Following a recent Open Day at TLG, domestic

demand has soared. His first son offered for sale, Warrior

W62, is a frame size outlier, in the low 7 range. He

packs some serious growth into a very well constructed

phenotype. His dam has had sons sell to $36,000.

I love this bull and the brother that follows. Each has a good

number of calves due next Autumn. Ricky R45 adds to his

reputation here, as sire of the dam. Kerry U68 is a lovely young

cow, with immaculate leg angles, foot structure and perfect udder

conformation. Named Wyatt in honour of my Dad, W50 shows

a similar gentle disposition to his namesake, with a strong sire’s

head, superb structural design, and the same perfect foot base

of his sire. With a borderline C+/B- visual muscle pattern, and

the softest of hair types, Wyatt is yarded in a pen of seriously

powerful young sires. Standing at frame 6.5, with a superbly

balanced data set and novel pedigree, Wyatt and his brother

Weston who sells next, represent cutting edge genetics, two

years ahead of the game.

Full brother to the preceding bull. Only personal

preference will determine which one is the better bull.

Named Weston, again honouring my father (his second

name), W20 has similar stud sire capacity to his brother.

We eagerly await his first progeny in February. We used

both bulls over heifers and consider them suitable for all

roles in the herd.

Throughout the 57 year existence of the herd, we’ve embraced

the benefits of sensible line breeding. It is the key to type

consistency. I love the double dose of breed legend Flower N30,

coupled here with two shots from Heart Angus’ renowned cow

maker, Nectar N334. Walcott W141 is a two year old heifer’s calf,

born later in the season than the rest of the bulls in his pen. To

make the opening yard of the sale is a phenomenal effort from

his dam. What’s more, after birthing Walcott, Ela U199 backed

up for a quick MOET flush (to produced two calves), raised

him magnificently, and rejoined to calve with twins, 248 days

after Walcott was born. And she took to the first round of AI this

Autumn. To inspect, Walcott displays the exemplary structure

expected from the pedigree. He is as long as a train, wonderfully

fluid in his stride, with the beautiful strong head and soft nature

Ulsterman is transmitting. Owning a perfectly balanced data set,

he is a bull for all seasons and should draw stud consideration.

Beautifully balanced all rounder, on paper and in the flesh.

W18 displays plenty of phenotype power to make him ideal

for working a mob of mature cows, but he also carries brilliant

calving ease credentials if needed to operate in the heifer mobs.

The Ramjet progeny have been an excellent introduction to the

herd. This will be the last year with direct Ramjet sons in the

sale, as the 2024 sale topper, Ultrajet U356, steps into his shoes.

The maternal side of W18’s pedigree is rolled gold, descending

from the wonderful Flower N30 as great grand dam, through

her acclaimed daughter R118, who sold to Ascot Angus for

$80,000 in 2023. Throw in Rector’s renowned cow making input

behind U39, and the pedigree quality runs deep. This layering

of outstanding animals from each respective generation, one

pedigree line after another, is what underpins the quality and

value of the bulls we present each year. Maternal brother sells

at Lot 25.
